Thailandshjalpen is helping children and young people in northeastern Thailand to get a better life .

There are millions of poor people living in northeastern Thailand, mostly farmers , who struggle on a daily basis for their family's survival. This often leads to bad consequences in terms of children's health and schooling. From this region there is also a lot of recruiting for the entertainment industry in the south. We are working to counteract this.

The countryside depopulates more and more also in Thailand. More and more people see a move to big cities as the only solution to be able to support their families. Most people have no , or very poor , education, and often end up in a situation where they are being exploited for very little compensation . A situation they often do not come out of.

With better conditions already at schoolage , they can choose their own future!

Glasses to schoolchildren

As an example we mention that the first two schools that we visited in Phon Phisai municipality had a total of 985 pupils. An elementary school , grades 1-6 , with 110 pupils and a secondary school , grades 7-12 , with 875 pupils. Only one (1 ) student of these 985 had glasses! Why has not the school kids eyeglasses in northern Thailand? The family simply can not afford to pay for something that is still considered a luxury in northern Thailand. Historically handle most of their agricultural tasks without glasses . Children with visual impairment imposes itself ( at best) through the compulsory 9 years and then jump off. Probably with poor grades .How much does a pair of glasses?Normally costing a couple of glasses 1500-2000 Baht ( 320-450 SEK) and above. Given that many families may only have an income of 3000-5000 Baht ( 650-1100 SEK) per month, then you understand that the glasses come very far down on the priority list. However, we have negotiated lower prices which is around 150-350 SEK / pair depending on the vision.

Distribution of spectacles in Watluang school in July -14. Proud students, parents , teachers and the principal when the children receive their long awaited glasses.

In June , we tested the eyes of the children in the village Watluang . Nut 11 years had hardly any vision left in one eye and needed immediate laser treatment to save sight . She lives with relatives when both her parents have passed away. Thanks to eye tests and laser treatment , she now has opportunities to carve out a good life.
